“STRICTLY LYMINGTON BACK WITH TWO PERFORMANCES”

FOR THE LYMINGTON COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION

Saturday 12th November saw the transformation of the Gates Hall to welcome back “Strictly Lymington” for its third year.  The idea initiated by Kayleigh Sargeant, owner of New Forest Academy of Dance and Kevin Thatcher of Life on an Even Keel together with Rachel Smith, Centre Manager.

This year, there were two performances, one in the afternoon followed by an evening performance.  Both were full of fun, laughter and entertainment which commenced when guests were greeted on arrival with drinks and served canapes by volunteers.   Lighting and music directed by Ben Sargeant.   This year’s performances raised a whopping £3,000 for the Community Centre.

The events kicked off with dance routines from the show, Hairspray.  Everyone was welcomed by the compere Tess Kazim, a local Actress and Storyteller.

Six local willing contestants took to the dance floor, each dancing with a professional dancer.  Carrie Bugg, local Photographer from Milford – the Charleston, Gavin Gobell, Osteopath, The Wessex Clinic – the Tango, Julia Morris, Head Teacher, Lymington Infant School – Rumba, Bart Small, Owner, New Forest Fish and Shellfish – Rumba, Linda Scott, Visit Milford on Sea – Quickstep, and Eddie Allen, Owner Edit Solutions – ChaCha.

There was a panel of judges overseeing and critiquing their performances for each performance.  During the interval, the audience were invited to vote for their favourite performance.  A Raffle was drawn followed by more dance demonstrations by Kayleigh and her team of dancers.

For the afternoon performance, Julia Morris and Kevin were announced the winners and were presented with the Strictly Lymington Glitter Ball by the Mayor, Cllr James Hoare and in the evening Bart Small and Kayleigh were presented with the Strictly Lymington Glitter Ball by local Irish Actress Geraldine Sommerville, known for her roles in the film Gosford Park and the Harry Potter film series. Her other roles have included My Week with Marilyn and Grace of Monaco.

Many thanks to our sponsors of the programme, Tennis 21, Life Transitions with Amanda Wise and Silver Street Colour Gas.
